LDF
The following information has kindly been provided by Andrea Long, Environmental Planning Manager, Breckland District Council. The Parish Council will be discussing this at future meetings and would appreciate any comments either to individual Councillors whose address are on this site or perhaps to Robert Childerhouse who is our Breckland District Councillor as well as a member of the Parish Council.
Weeting - Local Service Centre
Breckland is consulting on a final draft of the Core Strategy and Policies document as part of its Local Development Framework (LDF). The consultation is over a 6 week period from 28th January to 10th March 2008 and the documents can be viewed on-line at www.breckland.gov.uk or the Breckland Customer Contact Centre at Thetford. The Core Strategy sets out the broad locations for development over the next 20 years and the policies that will control the details of what development will look like, where amenity and the environment will be protected and how development will contribute to sustainable communities in Breckland.
A key part of the LDF Core Strategy is to identify a number of larger, sustainable villages as locations where services will be protected and enhanced. The consultation document identifies 12 Service Centre Villages in Breckland that contain adequate services and facilities to meet the day-to-day requirement of their existing residents; including Weeting. 6 of the proposed 12 Local Service Centre villages are also being proposed for additional development to help support their service role and Weeting is included as a candidate Local Service Centre village for growth. By being identified as a service centre for growth it means that we can consider making allocation(s) for new housing in the village. The exact scale and location of any potential allocations is still to be determined and the views of the village are vital in assisting Breckland in finding the most appropriate site(s). It is important that Breckland Council receives comments at this stage on what the appropriate scale of growth is appropriate for Weeting together with any views you have on broad locations. Comments can be made on-line at www.breckland.gov.uk or in writing to Breckland Council during the 6 week period listed above.
